SASHA...

For the past two weeks, Sasha developed a cough raising concerns about her health. She would start hacking and expectorate a foamy white substance after some activity.

My first thought was heartworm. It happens up here with the mosquitoes.

My second thought was kennel cough.

Pneumonia? Possibly.

I scheduled a veterinarian appointment for Saturday, January 14.

I had difficulty sleeping Friday night and early Saturday morning worried about losing her.

When we took the dogs to the vet for their first nail clipping, I brought along Sasha's favorite squeaky toy and some treats in the event I had to put her down.

We arrived at the vet's office. Drake was first to get his "puppycure."

As he was being tended to, the vet listened to Sasha's heart and said her heart had no irregular heartbeat.

When Drake was done, it was time for Sasha's appointment. I gave her a big hug as she was led away. Drake started whining. He was nervous and missed his sister.

Sasha's test came back negative. A huge sigh of relief overwhelmed me.

She has been placed on heartworm monitoring for the next six months as insurance for her health.

She was prescribed amoxicillin twice a day for the next seven days.

As of today, her cough still persists. I am going to limit her to strenuous activity to allow her time to recuperate.

Meanwhile, Drake is in excellent health and soon we will place him under heartworm monitoring.

Life is good again...
