SMOKE

The lightning sparked fires of June 21 have cast its haze all over the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra foothills. There were two fires near Oakhurst which have now been extinguished thanks to the valiant efforts of the firemen who answered the call from all over who battled not only the fires but the intense heat Mother Nature through in with temperatures above 100°. There were no fires near our house.

2 NEW FAMILY MEMBERS

We have two Manx kittens named Samson and Delilah. Nana named them. I suggested more "obvious" names like Billie and Reuben. Samson is the shy one. Delilah is the daring explorer always curious and usually is the one who gets into trouble.

We have a large rectangular rug in the living room which doubles as a wrestling mat for these two. It is a joy to see them go at each other playfully. Samson knows when to say when, but Delilah does not give up easily. She will bite Samson either on the rear leg or on the haunches. Of course, Samson does not like that and they go at it again. They eat together, sleep together, play together.

Samson on the left and Delilah on the right.

Why me? Poor Jingles, the kitten sitter. He gets along well with the kittens. They will come up and thump him on the nose with their paws or bite his tail. Jingles doesn't seem to mind. He keeps a constant eye on them.

At their best behavior.

ULTIMATE FATHER'S DAY GIFT

It can drive a 6-D nail thru a 2 X 4 at 200 yards. This makes construction a real breeze…you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence.

Just get the wife (and kids if you have any) to hold the fence boards in place while you sit back and relax with a cold one. Once they have the board in the right place, adjust the rear aperture just fire away. With the hundred round magazine, you can build a fence with a minimum of reloading with relative ease.

After a day of fence building with the new Dewalt Rapid fire nail gun, the wife will not ask you fix or build anything else. She may ask you to shoot your next-door neighbor's dog that keeps barking in the middle of the night.

Available for a little more is the "band-aid magazine" for those near misses when fence building.
